Nightlife and the Arts

Corfu town is a late-night, café-crowded, club-happy city. During the summer months, the Greeks dine very late, often at 10 pm. The nightly volta, a pre- or post-dinner promenade along the Esplanade and the Liston, starts at about 9 pm. Couples stroll, families gather, kids play, and the cafés and restaurants fill up. The club and disco scene heats up much later, around midnight. Party Central lies about 2 km (1 mile) north of the town center, near the New Port, on Ethnikis Antistaseos (also known as “Bar Street”). This is where you’ll find a string of plush lounge-bars (many with outdoor pools) and discos that really don’t start swinging until after midnight. Clubs on Corfu come and go like tourists, with many featuring incredibly loud sound systems that throb with the latest Euro-pop and dance hits. Most clubs have a cover charge, which includes the first drink.
